A New Lease on Life - San Marcos Edition

On May 25, a mere 6 days ago, Aaron, Rasta, Bentley, and I packed up our earthly possessions and moved to San Marcos, TX. I'll be starting graduate school here in the Fall while working as a teaching assistant in freshmen-level Communication courses. Aaron will be finishing up his bachelor's degree in Psychology, entering as a junior at Texas State.

Rasta and Bentley will continue sleeping 19 hours a day, waking only for potty and food breaks, as well as the occasional bone-chewing session, staring-out-the-window marathon, or walking-around-the-complex-looking-for-fine-lookin'-lady-dogs jaunt.

Aaron has been quite the unpacking-and-setting-up-the-apartment nazi, so we've gotten our place organized rather quickly. I've also had a little bit of time to make a few crafty-type things. A girl's gotta have her priorities, right? So here's a little photo-blog of what we've accomplished this week at Casa de Konesheck/Grady:

What our bedroom looks like so far. Can you spot the wiener on the bed??? :)

We have a fireplace! And check out that lazy pup on the sofa!

After two years, I finally framed my diploma!

Our small dining area

A pouch I made for the fridge to hold pens and stuff...
This is the pocket I sewed shut the other day :)

Some of my books...why yes, that IS the critically acclaimed books
The Collected Poems of Sylvia Plath and Crime and Punishment next to Twilight!

That thing in Bentley's mouth is a dog toy I made
by braiding several pieces of scrap fabric together. He freaking loves it.

This might look like a random picture of a sock, but it's actually a dog toy.
You know those dog toys of the stuffed animals you stick flattened water bottles inside?
Well, I just smushed an old water bottle, stuck it in a sock, and tied off the end.
So, it's a random picture of a sock made into a dog toy.

In addition to unpacking and making odd little craft things, we've also done quite a bit of exploring. On Memorial Day, we joined Aaron's cousin, Teresa, and her husband and kids at Lake Travis for a really fun, relaxing day. We've eaten at several local San Marcos restaurants, including Grin's and Garcia's, and got lost in Austin looking for a damn Citibank. We hiked around the hills of the Texas State campus and ate lunch in the Student Center. We also bought some Texas State shirts and car stickers, which I think officially makes us Bobcats...

Well, there you have it. A week in the life of the Konesheck-Gradys. Rasta is eating coffee grounds out of the trash, so I should probably wrap this up and go put a stop to that. Have a happy Tuesday!
